Først Chair

Furniture Design and Fabrication
Copenhagen, DK

Designed to allow the user to sit with crossed-legs. Created to be sustainable, using a flatpack bamboo frame and a rod system to easily change the fabric for indoor or outdoor use. Designed and built in Copenhagen at the Danish Institute for Study Abroad, as part of the semester-long Furniture Design Studio led by Erling Christoffersen.

Inspired by Hans Wegner’s approach to honest design and Kaare Klint’s portable furniture. The intent was to create a chair that would adapt to the users needs. One could sit with their legs crossed, or on the ground. Fabric seating could be changed by sliding it out, inserting a new color, material, or pattern. Hex screws for the stretchers allow it to be easily broken down for transportation.
Spring 2017.
